Frequented Question.

I get this question a lot. If it is safe to give your dog glucosamine that was meant for humans. And I always say yes. I have been giving my dog liquid glucosamine for dogs for about 4 years now after first trying to give her powdered glucosamine (which failed miserably). But the liquid she would take, it was easier on her stomach as its already in a liquid form which would easily absorb into her system.

I have seen other liquid glucosamine products that are able to go directly into their water. But I really didn’t trust the company as they were new and saw it on a late night commercial. But the one I use I did my research and found a lot of testimonials on the subject. And decided to try it, after alerting my vet about it we all agreed it would help.

And it did!

1 in every 5 adult dogs suffers from the debilitating disease called arthritis. Dog Arthritis is far more common than most people expect and most of the time the symptoms are so subtle that we don’t even know our dogs are suffering. To date most pet owners still truly believe that their dogs are not in pain because they don’t cry. This is a huge misconception. The days are gone that a dog should have to be euthanized due to their inability to get up and function. The key is catching it early and having a plan. We are going to help you do that and for those of you whose dogs are already struggling don’t worry, help is on the way!

The Dog Arthritis Guide was developed for dog owners like yourself seeking comprehensive trustworthy information. The more informed and educated you are about the causes, prevention and treatment for dog arthritis, the better you will be able to help you dog.

Though I love my veterinary colleagues unfortunately more times than not, many of them do not give you the complete information about how you can help your dog with arthritis. Whether it is because appointments only last 15 minutes and there is not enough time to discuss everything, or they don’t know all of the options that exist, or in the worst case they just don’t think that it is that important.

Whichever the case, now you will be armed with valuable information to help your make the right decisions for your dogs long term joint health and you will be able to ask informed questions to your veterinarian.

Remember arthritis does not only affect older, geriatric dogs it also affects younger dogs many with predisposing conditions such as hip dysplasia or even obesity. Starting proper joint supplementation at an early age is vital to maintaining balanced joint health throughout life. In addition, when if comes to joint health there is much more to it than just glucosamine and chondrotin. Though these two glycosaminoglycans are valuable components there are tons of additional ingredients that can safely benefit your dogs joints. Remember, Natural first, medication second!

Focus should be on a well balanced joint supplement that has both natural anti-inflammatories and chondroprotectants (ie. Glucosamine hydrocloride) in one.

This Dog Arthritis Guide will serve as your comprehensive guide, covering everything and anything related to Dog Arthritis from prevention to treatment. Just follow the categories on the left to learn more about how to beat this potentially devastating disease.

Dr. James St.Clair “Dr.J” is a veterinarian and owner for both a large animal hospital and canine rehabilitation facility. His passion includes helping arthritic dogs and their owners on ways to battle this horrible disease.

As with everything in life, always check with your health professional first. Or in this case your veterinarian. Most vets will take a look at any pamphlets or brochures you have brought in with you. Even products that you have bought and brought in with you. That is how I introduced my veterinarian to Syn-flex , originally it was made for humans but it is gentle enough for all dogs. They make a animal version too that has beef flavor but I’ve been giving my pooch the original type as she believes its more like human food and she loves human food.

This was after the huge failure with that powdered glucosamine that you would sprinkle on the food. But I found most of it being left behind. So as in my previous post I experimented with sauces and gravies. Some of them looked pretty good too.. But it lasted for awhile about a couple weeks to a month then she turned her nose up at that.

That’s when I really started taking a look at what she would eat and started devising a plan to make weekly meal planning. When I told my Vet about this plan she was very impressed with it. She did say to start out slow and work up to what I had planned because at that time she was only 7 or 8 years old.

Plus also if your dog is as finicky as mine is you need to start out slow. And she has a very sensitive stomach too, so things react rather.. well let’s just leave that subject alone.. What I did find out is a good well balanced meal preparation was essential for her health, a lot of dry dog food doesn’t include a lot of what they need. So supplements are a good way to help them out keeping their coats not only shiny but also their skin healthy plus teeth and bone!
